Campbell County Schools and the Campbell County Board of Education wish Dr. Shelli Wilson the very best in her coming retirement and celebrate all that has been accomplished during her tenure as superintendent. CCS respects and supports her decision, considering all she’s contributed in 32 years in public education and 25 years in Campbell County, but she will be deeply missed. We are incredibly grateful for all she has done for our students, staff, and community.
Under Dr. Wilson’s leadership, the district has advanced meaningful, student-centered work that will have a lasting impact. She led the development of the Profile of a Graduate and ensured those competencies became a part of every child’s development. She oversaw major facility improvements, including the completion of Phase I of Campbell County Middle School, and the planning, development, and opening of the new Grant’s Lick Elementary. The initial planning and design for Phase II of the CCMS innovative campus redesign is also underway under her leadership.
Her leadership expanded opportunities for students at every level. This includes launching a nature-based preschool program, initiating a full-day preschool classroom plan to include at-risk learners, and strengthening pathway alignment from preschool through 12th grade, including the addition of internal internships. She supported the creation of the first Campbell County Education Foundation, encouraged the pursuit of more than $6.5 million competitive grant funding, and prioritized staff by securing 16.5% in raises and establishing new retirement savings options.
Dr. Wilson also enhanced student experiences through the restructuring of extra duty pay, increased fine arts support, and facility upgrades such as the renovation of the Campbell County High School auditorium and business classrooms. She championed the expansion of pathways, including fire science, HVAC, hospitality and recreation, and advanced manufacturing, ensuring students graduate prepared for college, career, and life.
Prior to becoming Superintendent, Dr. Wilson served Campbell County as an assistant principal at CCHS, principal of Cline Elementary, and Associate Superintendent.
Dr. Wilson’s legacy is one of vision, care, and a relentless focus on limitless futures for students. Campbell County Schools is stronger because of her leadership, and her impact will be felt for years to come.
Dr. Wilson remains focused on meaningful work alongside the team for the remainder of the school year, and we are confident the finish will be just as strong as the work that has led us here. The Board of Education will communicate next steps with the community as we carry this tradition of excellence forward.
